Hazardous Waste

Contain Risks.

Hazardous Waste Disposal can provide a unique challenge to our residential, and more often, our commercial and industrial clients. Stockpiles, site cleanup, MSDS management, EPA-compliant disposal, characterization of unknown and/or hazardous materials, containment and shipping requirements, or the need for analysis of individual samples… all require regulatory awareness and safety considerations. The added burden of in-house Hazardous Waste management can begin to overrun day-to-day operations and create risks. From identification to certified disposal, we contain environmental risks. EMG Remediation Services characterizes unknown and/or hazardous waste, quantifies and, when necessary, analyzes waste samples to identify each waste. After identification, all pertinent federal and state regulations are followed for proper disposal. Our work reduces your burden.

Materials Sampling and Inventory

Wastes are frequently stored in poorly marked containers or not labeled at all. Prior to handling and disposing of these unidentified wastes it may be required to collect representative samples of the materials and quantify the size or weight of each item.

Identification, Analysis and Classification

In conjunction with sample collection, field measurements and observations are used to classify the wastes in similar waste streams for consolidation and packaging. Common waste classifications include flammables, strong caustics, strong acids, heavy metals and specific listed wastes as identified in EPA documents.

ELAP-Certified Lab Analysis

All field samples are properly preserved in specific glassware and shipped for analysis to an Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (ELAP) certified laboratory for analysis.

Disposal Packaging, Containment and Shipping

Upon receipt of the laboratory analytical results, the classified wastes are consolidated by waste stream, labeled for identification, and prepared for shipping.

Removal and Remediation

Once the wastes are properly consolidated and containerized, the waste is ready for shipment to the EPA-approved disposal facility. All hazardous waste is transported by a hazardous certified waste hauler as required by DOT regulations.

Approved Department of Transportation (DOT) Packaging

All containers used to ship hazardous waste must meet specific guidelines outlined by the DOT. Damaged or leaking drums may not be used for shipping and may require the use of an overpack drum. This is a drum into which the damaged or leaking drum is placed for shipment purposes.

Certified Disposal Manifests

Copies of all disposal manifests are provided subsequent to the shipment of the hazardous waste. Copies of the manifests are provided for the Generator of the waste as well as the state in which the waste is generated. All waste disposal practices used by EMG Remediation and its employees are in compliance with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Department of Transportation (DOT), Pennsylvania Department Environmental Protection (PaDEP) regulations. Where possible, we promote the use of recycling wastes and thermal treatment to minimize our client’s liability as well as reduce the amount of wastes shipped to landfills.

Safety Data Sheets (SDS) Management

Product SDS sheets may be used in lieu of waste analysis if the waste is unused and in the original container. EMG Remediation Services can assist in obtaining the SDS sheets as necessary.

40-Hour HAZWOPER Trained

All EMG Remediation Services hazardous waste handlers are trained in accordance with the OSHA HAZWOPER requirements with annual refresher courses. Use of HAZWOPER trained personnel promotes safety and proper disposal.
